The Debate Mate Cup

Team Eastern attended the Debate Mate Cup Final at the Principality stadium!
On 3rd April, our Year 7 and 8 Debate Mate team participated in the Debate Mate Cup Final at the Principality Stadium. Throughout the day, they engaged in three rounds of debates, addressing motions on topics such as independent energy sufficiency, the use of social media by presidents, and the pay disparities between athletes and public sector workers.
Although Team Eastern did not advance to the final this year, they secured two victories, gained invaluable experience, and forged friendships with students from various schools across Cardiff. Our students demonstrated exceptional dedication, earning praise from volunteers and staff alike. We are immensely proud of the way they represented our school. We eagerly anticipate their continued growth and success in the upcoming year.
We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to our mentor, Joseph, who provided invaluable support in developing the students' debating skills and confidence. Furthermore, congratulations to Mr. Major, our English teacher and Debate Mate teaching staff lead, who participated in the show debate. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to observe staff role modelling the skills they have worked hard to develop, and they were thrilled to cheer Mr. Major on.
Congratulations once again to everyone involved. Below, you can find a selection of photos showcasing Team Eastern in action.
